Admitted Students

Congratulations on being admitted to the Distance Education Plant Breeding Program at Texas A&M University!  The following steps will get you started on your new degree program.  If you have any questions, please contact Beth Ann McClosky ((979) 321-5902 or bamcclosky@tamu.edu.)

  1. International students should follow the instructions found here:  International Student Services – Distance Learners
  2. Update your Distance Education Location in HOWDY.
      • In HOWDY under MY RECORD go to DE Location Update
      • This must be done EACH SEMESTER before you will be able to register
  3. In consultation with your committee chair(s) determine which courses you will take each semester.
  4. Register for classes
      • Distance students should register for course sections designated “700” (for example: SCSC 641 Section 700)
      • If a distance section is not available for a course – please contact Beth McClosky – bamcclosky@tamu.edu. Do not register for a non-distance section.
  5. Activate your TAMU Email Account.  This is your official student account and all University and class correspondence will be sent to this address.  Be sure to check it regularly.
  6. Pay your tuition.

Submitting Your Degree Plan

A degree plan serves as a contract between a student, their committee, and The Graduate and Professional School.  By submitting your degree plan, you formally declare your chair advisor, committee members, and the course work you are required to complete as part of your degree program.  The degree plan must be submitted to The Graduate and Professional School before the end of the student’s second long semester for MS students and before the end of the student’s fourth long semester for PhD students.  Failure to do so will result in a registration block being placed on the student by The Graduate and Professional School.
